Have
you ever worried when you teach your students in teaching learning process? You
explained the lesson like a professional teacher in front of class but nobody
can take a part. It will make you stress and feel failed to be a teacher. But,
do not worry every problem has a solution to solve it. When you feel failed to
be a teacher because you teach in passive class and you feel like you talking
to yourself all day long. There are teacher questioning strategies in classroom
learning activity to change your passive class to be an active class.
In
teaching learning process, there is an interaction process between students and
teacher that is called asking and giving a question. Questioning to student
must be applied in questioning strategies to make the situation at the
classroom more interested and enjoyed by all participants. Asking a question to the student in teaching
learning process can stimulate them to know what they are going to learn and
the teacher should know how far his/her student understand about the topic. It
will make learning process more easier and fun. There are several advantages of
using teacher questioning strategies in classroom learning activity.
First,
when teacher asked a question to his/her students, teacher letting students
know something about the importance of certain ideas and information. Second, asked
a question can be used to promote preparation. If the teacher always asks a question about
previous lesson when class start, the teacher would know that the student
coming to class prepared. Third, teacher question can engage students. Good question
can raise student’s interest, make them wonder why, get them to think and
motivate them to make connection to the lesson of the day. This advantage is
magnified when teacher plays a bit with a question and the last advantages of
asking question in classroom learning activity is to improve student speaking
skill. When teacher asked a question to the student, it will help the student
to practice their language by answering the question and they will get a
feedback. And it’s one of those skills that developed better with feedback as
stated by Maryellen (2011)
Being a teacher not only teaching in your classes everyday but you know how to engage your student during teaching and learning process. According to Newman (2012) teacher should use a variety questioning strategies to engage students in classroom learning activity. In addition, when teacher use questioning strategies in learning process it means students would have opportunity to express their own idea and it support to develop a good discussion in the classroom learning activity.
To
conclude, giving and asking question in teaching learning process is very
important. But, not all of teacher applied teacher questioning strategies in
teaching learning process. So if you want to be a good teacher and want your
student enjoy you class just apply teacher questioning strategies in teaching
learning process. I wonder the students might be more interested in
participation if we did.
